Upcoming Initiative – Fund Raiser for the new SVCE Library
An active donation drive is being planned and implemented for raising funds for the state of the art library infrastructure. SVCE already has a well established – fully computerized library with more than twenty-five thousand titles covering all major fields of Science and Engineering. The Library also has the following facilities for the faculty, staff, and the students: Conferencing, Multimedia, Internet, Reprography and a CD-ROM collection. A book bank for deserving candidates is also being maintained.
The college subscribes to most of the major technical journals including IEEE, IEE, ASCE, ACM, ASTM, J-GATE, MCGRAWHILL, NATURE and ScienceDirect journals. There are more than 1,00,000 volumes of journals available. Along with this, we have more than 900 subscriptions to online journals and 1800 CDs. To augment the value of our library, we are an institutional member of The British Council Library, CIPET, and MALIBNET.
A library committee headed by the Principal, comprising of all the Heads of Departments, and Student Representatives, meets every semester to discuss the functioning of the library.
Well, that’s not it. We are expanding our current library to do much more. Salient features of the new library being built:
- Ground + 3 floors spanning 55K Sq. Ft.
- The ground floor will have a seating capacity of 200, a VIP lounge and special library block of 4000 Sq. Ft.
- The first and second floor will house all the journals, several thousands of volumes of books, and a new E-Library.
- The library block will house a state of the art Digital Library with 75 computers, TVs, projectors, conference rooms, etc..
- There will be department wise library in the second floor.
- There are 6 acoustic proof study rooms for students.
- An Anna Centenary Library style hall for students reading area.
- Other features include centralized AC, interiors, CCTV, LED lighting, and pantry.
The library block development is under construction and will be built over a span of 2 years. The completion and opening is planned for Dec 2016.
